In 1986 a seventeen year old Ice Cube was already hustling for his dreams. A lot of rappers were affiliated with other groups/projects long before they found success in their most notable group/solo pursuits, and he is no exception.
C.I.A. (“Cru In Action”) formed in the mid-1980s, consisted of Ice Cube, Sir Jinx and K-Dee. The group had strong affiliations with the World Class Wreckin Cru, with producer Dr. Dre creating the beats for C.I.A.’s only release, “My Posse”. With a raw, low budget but very authentic sound, you can hear a young Ice Cube and friends with a very explosive style similar to the Beastie Boys.
Recorded in 1986 and released in 1987, the single “My Posse” (which actually contained 3 songs and their instrumentals) was a total of 6 tracks. You can definitely hear Cube working out his rhymes and cadence for future hit songs like “Dopeman” and “Boyz N The Hood”.
Ice Cube would go on to joining N.W.A. with Dr. Dre, but after financial disputes he left that group and reunited with Sir Jinx and K-Dee under the name Da Lench Mob.
