We recently had the chance to holler at Blizz Vito, who has been consistent with his content and has been featured on our platform previously. We discussed a variety of subjects, see the interview below.
MBB: Was the video “Fake Friends” inspired by real life events, or is more just a flossy type track?
BLIZZ: Fake Friends is autobiographical. I grew up fast recognizing that people are fake. They love you when you are winning but few people want to be by your side when you are struggling. You have people that believe in you and you have people that come around looking to benefit from what you have acquired by your hard work and efforts. When you grow up on the block you recognize that fake friends are parasites and feed off of you without contributing to your success. The lyrics are a mirror of the life that I experienced from being born and raised in Clinton Hills, Brooklyn which is the same neighborhood as the late great Biggie Smalls. In this life you have few people that are genuine and authentic. You have to cherish the people in your life that are honest and genuine. Flossing is not the intention nor the motivation. You grow up seeing and hearing about Jay-Z and Biggie. These are people that had the same dream and lived in the same place I call home. So I think that it is a lifestyle of being able when you come from nothing that you want to show that you can now have designer clothes and money. It is the reality when you struggle that you want to prove to yourself and others that you can finally afford better things because you were willing to sacrifice and work hard to attain success. The alternative is you can fail to dream and think that having money and being able to afford things will never happen.
MBB: What are a few ways you promote your music different than others?
BLIZZ: I went out and got people who were already successful and knew successful rappers or had the blueprint for success. My management team WeTrustUs worked from the ground up. They laid out a plan that relationships and communication matters the most. You get one listener at a time to share your song and you now are building an audience. You do not rush to do shows when you have no audience. I focus on connecting my music with my listeners so that they want to share it with others. Music is organic and you have to grow your audience organically. Every thing matters. The first write up we received from you was part of the process of growing the audience. You have to connect blogs, playlists, street appeal and lyrical content with your audience. We are doing well with staying focused on connecting and growing our audience. You start with one listener and if you connect then that can lead to exponential organic growth.
I realized that you have to also have a team to make it in the music business. One person cannot do things alone and win. My music is promoted by a team of people that believe in me. When people see that you are genuine about connecting your music with your listening audience then they share that message with others. It is very understated that is lost on many the art of connecting with your listeners.

MBB: You have a lot of lyrics about cash and jewels, what are some of your favorite things to spend money on?
BLIZZ: I like to save money more than I spend it. The money and the jewels take a backseat for my intents on acquiring money. I see life through the lens of Jay-Z. Right now I am showing money but inside my head I am thinking about growing money. If the jeweler does not have something close to 24k then I am losing money because what I just bought would not be worth its weight in gold. I collect pieces of clothing. Things that are valuable purple label Polo and Retro Jordans. Everything I do is an investment in me. No wild spending on things that do not retain value. I am from an environment where if you are not smart than you will remain broke forever. Obviously, I prefer to be smart about life because I’ve been broke and that is a life with few options.

MBB: How long have you been rapping, and what can we expect from you musically in 2020?
BLIZZ: I only began rapping in 2018 but I always listened to rap music. I really needed better career options because trapping was not a long term plan (i.e. dead or in jail) and I dropped out of school so I needed music as my lifeline. My gift for freestyle was just natural and I realized that I wanted to make songs and not just be a lyricist. Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Biggie Smalls are lyricists that make great music. Those are the icons.
For 2020, I have new music with 808 Melo (producer behind Pop Smoke “Welcome to the Party” and K.O.T.C.
and have videos dropping all throughout 2020. I never stop working. In 2020, we are working on releasing more music including the Trapper’s Bible Volume 1 and we want to it to be a classic.
MBB: We have been watching your climb to the top for a while now, do you have any inspiration for upcoming artists?
BLIZZ: Upcoming rappers need to learn the business. Learn about publishing and copyrights. Build a catalog so your children’s children can eat off of your success. I really Bossed Up when I started my publishing company so I am the owner of my music.
For all the upcoming artists start with a plan and invest in yourself. Don’t expect others to believe in you when you are not focused and investing in your music. This is a full-time job which goes from morning till night if you want to be at the top. Sleep less work more. For those rappers who are trapping and trying to be successful in the rap industry just remember the mistakes of others. When you really want success in the rap game you are going to have to stop trapping because if you do both then you are likely going to be a poster boy for the FEDs. Just google rappers going to prison and you will see it.
