Previously we reviewed Janelia Soul’s video for the single “Love/Hate” , which we thoroughly enjoyed. Now she is gearing up to show the world her latest effort “The Self Affirmation Project”, due to be released July 13th.
With her exciting multi-cultural background, Nigerian-American singer and band leader Janelia, charms listeners with her unique and soulful melodies. Growing up in Nigeria, Janelia learned the local dialects and enjoys composing songs and singing in English, Pidgin and Yoruba. Did we mention the Love/Hate video has over a million YouTube views!
Her eight piece band, collectively known as “Janeliasoul” is the only female-fronted world music band based in Baltimore, MD. The band fuses traditional Nigerian rhythms with contemporary sounds like soul and Jazz. They are heavily influenced by world music artists Angelique Kidjo and Fela Kuti.
The songs on the album were inspired when she discovered the power of positive thinking. Affirmations helped create the magic in her life to find her true brilliance. Janelia wanted to use her songs as an instrument of impact by recording the new album. When the album releases it is likely to wow the world.
This album will be produced by Femi Sanya, one of the best Nigerian composers in the united states, who also happens to be her husband, bassist and music director of the band. The music is being recorded in Baltimore, MD at their project studio with all live musical instruments. It is also featuring some surprise guests!
All the songs on the album are affirmations and all the titles of the songs on the album begins with “I Am”. For example, first single off the album is titled “I Am Bold” In addition, all the tracks are played and procured by Femi and in some instances they hired freelance musicians to come in the studio to play the same instrumentation live. For example, the programmed drums will be replaced with live acoustic drums in order to give the album that organic live feel as opposed to sounding programmed and synthetic.
