Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) is set to perform in America for the final time.
After Bey was granted the ability to leave South Africa following an arrest over a passport violation, the Hip Hop artist will have retirement shows in Washington, DC and New York City.
The NYC show will take place at Harlem’s Apollo Theater on December 21.
Then Bey and special guests will head to DC for New Year’s Eve celebratory performances at The John F. Kennedy Center from December 31 to January 2.
The Kennedy Center event will feature a post-performance party in the Grand Foyer.
Artwork by Bey and artists from the A Country Called Earth collective will be on display for both showcases.
“We’re so excited to collaborate with the Kennedy Center on what will be a milestone moment in not only hip-hop history but also in popular culture,” stated Kamilah Forbes, executive producer of Apollo Theater.
