Metallica is headlining the 2015 X Games in Austin, TX on June 6th. The announcement was made during an interview with the band and skateboard legend Tony Hawk. This marks second year in a row that Austin has hosted the X Games, & sharing multiple stages with Metallica will be Nicki Minaj, Kid Ink, Talib Kweli, Deltron 3030, Joywave, the Glitch Mob, & Pennywise. The festival brings sports, gaming, music, & this great musical lineup to the Lone Star state.
This all-star mix of genres & artists is a perfect fit for the X Games, & the Bay Area will definitely be making an impact with Oakland based Deltron 3030 (Del The Funky Homosapien, Kid Koala & Dan The Automator) & Metallica, whose hometown is right across the water in San francisco. Bass guitarist Robert Trujillo says “There’s a connection to those type of people. It’s similar energy. You see at these events they’re playing a lot of hard rock metal and punk rock, I’m excited. One of the things I enjoy is hearing the music and seeing the skating. Seeing the two worlds working together at the same time.”
The Grammy-nominated starlet, Nicki Minaj, is one of the main musical acts on the new Super Stage in downtown Austin, while Deltron 3030, Talib Kweli, & Pennywise, are scheduled to perform on the Sound Factory stage. The X Games Austin 2015 starts off with Moto X Quarter Pipe followed by BMX big Air Doubles, Skateboarding & Off-Road Truck Racing.
